With grocery prices staying high, it’s more important than ever for residents to shop smart and make their food go further. At the same time, solid waste programs are looking for ways to reduce food waste while supporting their communities.
On Thursday, April 10, we hosted a
virtual chat with two food waste prevention experts to talk about how behavior change campaigns can make a real impact -- both in households and across their communities.
Joining us were
Lesly Baesens from Denver CO Department of Public Health & Environment's program
Food Matters: Solutions for Food Waste Prevention; and
Tony Staubach from Hamilton County OH Resource's program
Wasted Food Stops With Us. Both shared what’s working in their local efforts and how their programs tackle food waste from all angles: residential, commercial, industrial, and food recovery.
Carol Adaire Jones from the Environmental Law Institute, Food Waste Initiative Co-Director, helped lead the conversation with an introduction to
Food Waste Prevention Week and explaining why prevention is the smartest (and most cost-effective) way to fight food waste.
