Join us for a tour of A Wider Circle, a unique social services organization in Silver Spring dedicated to supporting families in need through its comprehensive reuse program.

A Wider Circle aims to advance equity in the greater Washington, DC region by connecting neighbors through the exchange of goods, skills, and relationships, while also advocating for solutions to the root causes of poverty. Much of this work is powered by donations of household goods, furniture, baby and children’s items, professional clothing, and more (see their Wishlist).

On March 17, you’ll get a firsthand look at how the organization operates and the impact it has on the community.

After the tour, you’re invited to stay and volunteer in the warehouse. Volunteer tasks may include unloading or sorting donations, stocking the showrooms for clients, or assisting with special projects such as assembling furniture or organizing bulk donations from big-box stores (learn more about group volunteering).

Note: You can do one or both of these.

*Please dress in a professional manner. This attire includes jeans or shorts and T-shirts with family-friendly and non-political messaging. You must wear closed toe shoes including sneakers or work boots. Please note that the warehouse is not climate controlled so dress accordingly.

Volunteer Information:

Prior to the event, each member of the group wishing to volunteer in the warehouse is asked to create a Volunteer Account using the online portal. This must be done at least 24 hours prior to the day of the activity.

Once your volunteer account has been reviewed (24 hours), you will receive an email indicating you can now SIGN UP for the March 17 MRN volunteer opportunity.

Volunteer Signup Instructions

When you LOG IN to your A Wider Circle Volunteer Account you may see several volunteer “Opportunities.” Because you are a member of a Volunteer Group, you do not SIGN UP for these public opportunities. The Maryland Recycling Network volunteers have a private opportunity. Follow the instructions below to SIGN UP for your private opportunity. • LOGIN to your account using the online portal. • Paste this private URL into your browser: https://awidercircle.galaxydigital.com/need/detail/?need_id=1217930 • When you see your group’s opportunity page, click the RESPOND button  • Scroll down to the end of the page and click SUBMIT OPPORTUNITY RESPONSE
