Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” – Henry Ford

That’s right! Thirty years ago, a group of recycling pros from the private and public sector came together to form the Maryland Recyclers Coalition (MRC). The group’s mission was to bring together stakeholders from every facet of the recycling community including county coordinators, agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and recycling activists to work towards building a better Maryland. In 2009, the organization rebranded as the Maryland Recycling Network.

Since its inception, MRN has worked to serve as a resource providing education and events (webinars, idea breaks, tours, annual conferences) and information to professionals and the public on current trends and policies as well as serving as a connection point between members, and between the recycling community and the public.

Most importantly, MRN has become a strong presence on the Maryland legislative front advocating for sensible legislative initiatives that achieve the goals in a cost- and time-effective manner without creating unintended consequences for our communities.

In the next few months, we’ll be talking with members as we revisit the past, celebrate the present (i.e., the passage of HB 164), and look towards the future. After all, sometimes digging into the past gives you a path to the future. Let’s see where it take us. Stay tuned for more plus details of a special in-person celebration coming in 2022!

Congratulations to Maryland Recycling Network on 30 wonderful years as a resource and leading voice for recyclers in Maryland.  And as always, thank you to our sponsors, our members and our volunteers for continuing to passionately support our mission.
