Maryland’s Statewide Electronics Recycling Program requires a manufacturer of a covered electronic device to affix its products with a label that contains the name of the manufacturer or the manufacturer’s brand label. It also requires a manufacturer of a covered electronic device to register with, and pay a registration fee to the Maryland Department of the Environment if the manufacturer plans to sell or offer for sale to any person in the State a new covered electronic device.
The Maryland Recycling Act (MRA) requires all Counties and Baltimore City to recycle 15% or 20% of the waste generated depending on population. Additionally, in 2000, Maryland established a voluntary Statewide waste diversion goal of 40% by 2005. The waste diversion goal is comprised of the recycling rate + source reduction credits (maximum 5%) that Maryland Counties and Baltimore City earn through activities designed to reduce the amount of waste going to the waste stream.
