MRN Brief: Celebrating Earth Day & Passage of Battery Recycling Bill

Published on 4/22/2024

Globes two WSEarth Day is today (April 22). Our mission here at MRN is to promote the sustainable reduction, reuse and recycling in Maryland. We do this through educational programs and events (webinars, tours, annual conference, etc) and advocacy working with legislators on responsible and effective recycling legislation. Learn more about who we are and what we're doing here.

And check out these great resources and ideas on how you can celebrate in 2024 and beyond:

In a nod to Earth Day, we're celebrating the passage of The Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Bill (HB0468 / SB0532)! The bill creates a commission to advance lithium-ion battery safety in MD, and MRN will be right there as part of the commission representing the recycling and solid waste communities. A special TX to Legislative Chair Chaz Miller and MRN President Kitty McIlroy for their awesome in-person testimonies! And to the full Legislative Committee for all your hard work! Visit Legislative & Regulatory for more information and updates.

The 2024 MRN/SWANA Mid-Atlantic Annual Conference is coming up fast. Join us on Monday, June 10, for 3 dynamic general sessions plus 8 breakout sessions, not to mention plenty of time to network and peruse the exhibitor hall. And of course, you'll be treated to a tasty breakfast, lunch and after-conference crab feast/happy hour. Be part of the conversation by registering today.

Still time to register for this month's free webinar: Join us this Thursday, 4/25, as Elizabeth Schussler and Lydia Keenan of The Recycling Partnership’s Center for Sustainable Behavior & Impact take us through the everyday dynamics of household recycling including how recyclable materials flow through the house, how this flow affects the action to recycle, and whether the “twin the bin” the answer.
